A recent funding of $3.4m by the federal government will benefit six rural communities
across the region. This marks a big step forward in making public transit more accessible and
reliable for residents.

The funding will be used to improve transit infrastructure in several areas:

● Stoney Nakoda Nation: The funding will be used to purchase new transit vehicles,
such as on-demand transit, and improve infrastructure like bus stops and signage,
making connections easier between places.

● Bearspaw First Nation: The community will benefit from three new vehicles to help
fill gaps in transit services in Eden Valley. This will ensure that residents have a safer
and more reliable way to get around.

With a larger fleet of standard, mini and even electric buses, residents will now be able to
enjoy a more flexible schedule. Both fixed routes and new on-demand transit services will be
tailored to their specific needs, enhancing overall mobility.

These investments go beyond simply improving transit systems, they pave the way for
long-term changes. One of the most exciting aspects is that at least 10% of the funding will
directly benefit Indigenous communities.

By focusing on flexible solutions, people in rural and Indigenous areas can benefit from
reliable, simple and efficient transportation. This improved access will help them reach more
community services, such as childcare and healthcare. At Nemi, we are proud to be a part of
this movement that prioritizes inclusivity.
